The surgeon performing ASA, modeled on PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy), employs an Excimer laser (similar to that used in LASIK). Since there is no LASIK flap incision, the cornea remains structurally stronger. Since the corneal nerves are not cut as in LASIK, reflex tearing remains intact. Excellent optical outcomes have been shown to occur for patients that have had ASA, since larger optical zones are possible.

Over the past 6 years Dr. Paschall has performed over 5,000 Advanced Surface Ablation procedures, with over 95% of patients obtaining 20/40 vision or better and 90% obtaining 20/20 vision or better.
